CIE-331 Analysis of Structures and Materials

Fall 2017 and 2018 Teaching Assistant

Course Description

Analysis of statically determinate and indeterminate trusses, beams and frames by traditional and computer-based methods. Physical, mechanical and thermal properties of conventional and environmental friendly construction materials. (From CIE-331 Syllabus provided by Dr. Lui, Fall 2017)

My Role and Responsibility

CIE-331 is an undergraduate level course. As a teaching assistant, I am responsible for holding my office hours for three hours per week, answering students' questions and grading homework and exams.

The following details my role and responsibilities in facilitating students to learn and the instructor to teach.

  • Doing homework in advance so that answering students' questions towards each assignment

  • Grading assignment: the evaluation of students’ assignments strictly follows the grading rubric

  • Helping students understand better what they learnt in the lecture and answering questions when holding my office hours

TA Evaluation

At the end of this semester, students evaluated my TA performance anonymously. The figure below shows average score on each aspect of performance, rating from 1 (Excellent or Strongly Agree) to 5 (Poor or Strongly Disagree). I value each student’s evaluation and feedback very much, and it’s their several lines of comments that made my TA work and teaching skills worthwhile.

The Student Evaluation Result and comment above is provided by Dr. Lui (Instructor of the course).

CIE-500 Building Information Modeling

Spring 2018 Teaching Assistant

Course Description

This course is design to bring students through the process of Building Information Modeling (BIM). The class will be taught using Autodesk Revit. The class will follow along with the professor covering all of the tools within Revit. The students will also be responsible for creating their own class project using the tools learned in class. Although focused on architecture this course will focus on trade collaboration, and will look into constructability and other trades involved. Once completed, the student taking this class will have a commanding grasp of the application. (From CIE-500 Syllabus provided by Dr. Wing, Spring 2018)

My Role and Responsibility

As a teaching assistant, I am responsible for assisting student in the lab, while they are following the teacher's instructions.

The following details my role and responsibilities in facilitating students to learn and the instructor to teach.

  • Providing help in class about how to use the Revit software

  • Providing assistance to students in their HW and term projects
